POSITION SUMMARY

Leading Change is seeking an Executive Director with a proven track record of leadership, commitment to sustainability, and a belief in the power of youth to drive ambitious change. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the operations, programming, fundraising, and strategic planning of the organization. Other key duties include marketing, staff and volunteer management, event delivery, and community engagement.

This is a full-time, permanent position with the option to work remotely anywhere in Canada (preference will be given to qualified applicants located in one of the cities in which we have an office).

ABOUT LEADING CHANGE and OUR GROUP OF ORGANIZATIONS

Leading Change Canada is a national not-for-profit supporting a Canada-wide network of young sustainability leaders and professionals between the ages of 19-35. We act as the “connective tissue” between youth organizations, initiatives, and individuals and equip them with the knowledge, networks, and platforms needed to create real, substantiated positive change. Our flagship program is the Leading Change Forum, held biennially in parallel with the GLOBE Forum since 2004.

Leading Change is part of a collective of like-minded organizations that includes The Delphi Group, GLOBE Series, and CBSR. Our shared vision is to achieve a sustainable, prosperous, and socially just future in a generation. The Executive Director will have the opportunity to access support and guidance from our experts from across the country, as well as receive support from colleagues in our shared services functions (marketing and communications, IT, accounting, and human resources).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Not-For-Profit Management:

  • Reporting quarterly to the Board of Directors and annually to members on progress towards the strategic plan and financial targets
  • Ensuring all legal requirements and filing deadlines are met to maintain not-for-profit status
  • Leading iterations and continued development of a strategic plan for the organization, along with annual workplan and budget

 Partnership and Funding Development:

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key funders and donors
  • Identifying sources of funding (e.g. grants, corporate partners, Foundations, etc.)
  • Working with the Board of Directors and GLOBE / Delphi Group sales leads to develop key messages, materials, and partnership conversations with funders
  • Securing and judiciously managing funds and budgets for programs, events, and operations

Team Management:

  • Selecting and supporting Leading Change staff
  • Organizing and leading meetings with the Leading Change youth Steering Committee

Event and Project Management:

  • Leading the execution of the Leading Change activities surrounding Leading Change and GLOBExCHANGE, which happens in Feb/March of odd years in Toronto
  • Leading the execution of the Leading Change activities surrounding Leading Change and GLOBE Forums, which happen in Feb/March of even years in Vancouver
  • Coordinating staff and volunteers responsible for putting on these and other Leading Change events
  • Working with other team members from GLOBE, The Delphi Group, CBSR and EXCEL Partnership to help support youth activation initiatives

 Marketing and Communications:

  • Taking a proactive approach to promoting Leading Change accomplishments and projects through participation and presentations at related conferences and events

  • Comprehensive understanding of the importance of community-building, inclusivity, and cross-sectoral engagement in the transition to a sustainable, prosperous, and socially-just future
  • Knowledge of sustainability, social equity, and environment-related concepts
  • Demonstrated relationship-building and partnership development to amplify impact
  • Experience with all stages of fundraising from initial meetings to ongoing stewardship
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Facilitation skills relating to high-stakes or polarizing topics
  • Strong project management experience with a focus on accountability, transparency, and prioritization
  • Experience with all stages of fundraising from initial meetings to ongoing stewardship
  • Proven track record of building, supporting, or leading effective teams
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team setting, ideally within a non-profit environment
  •  Previous experience engaging and collaborating with young leaders and professionals between the ages of 19-35 is an asset
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
